This is really so simple that even a two year old can understand it. In any state there are x amount of dogs/cats in shelters, rescues and foster homes-with new ones coming in daily. There are only x amount of permanent homes available. There are always more animals looking for a home than owners looking to take them into a home. You are also competing with Craig's list where often an animal can be gotten cheaper than through a shelter or rescue. Then there is the simple fact that many people prefer puppies to adult dogs with unknown histories. If every state was a no-kill imagine how many animals will sit and wait for a new home, which would actually be hard as there would eventually be no where to put them.
While many don't like the idea of adoptable dogs being PTS, it's the sad reality of our throw away society.

Pit bull owner: Dog was shot by police because of breed

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/54126500-78/dog-dozer-animal-lester.html.csp

Geez...it's always someone else's fault, never the owner is it? Officer's don't carry tranquilizer guns and sounds like they tried to use non-lethal first before the dog was shot. The owner wasn't born yesterday and should have known if his dog ever got loose what the outcome could be. The owner failed plain and simple. Hole in the fence? What about the dog owner's fence?  It isn't your neigbor's responsibility to keep your dog on your property. You are responsible to ensure your dog does not escape from your property.

****Seriously??? You weren't able to get away? Wow! Lame Excuse!

Of course all the Pitty People have their panties in a bunch due to the use of the word "pit bull" in the article. They get so easily riled! I wonder if Pit owners have a higher incident of strokes, high blood pressure and heart attacks.

That goes for you and your little dog too!

This post is for my neighbors. I am SO sick of people who think just because they have little dogs, they are exempt from the same laws that govern those of us with large and giant breeds. I know you think because your dog is smaller than mine, it's not going to hurt someone. However, I am tired of your dogs coming on my property, running my fence when my dogs are outside, causing them to bark up a storm and then they have to come in so they don't disturb others. I try to be a good neighbor to you guys. My dogs don't run loose, when they go outside I bring them in if they are barking too much, etc. Please obey the same rules as I do as they APPLY to ALL dog owners.

Pit bulls that attacked cows in Pitt Meadows put down

“They were put down because of the way they attacked. The length of time the dogs kept going after them, not stopping when hit or not stopping when called.”

Portsmouth Passes Vicious Dogs Ordinance

http://www.wsaz.com/home/headlines/Portsmouth_Passes_Vicious_Dogs_Ordinance_151482235.html

Christine Darby had a pit bull that was put down after it got loose and injured a man and the dog he was walking.
Animal control picked the dog up and discovered Darby didn't have insurance for him, so the dog was later euthanized.
Darby says the new ordinance unfairly targets pit bull owners.
"Any dog can be vicious,” she said. “Mine wasn't vicious, and he got put down. It's not fair to the owners at all.”

*****This is the type of owner dog ordinances need to target...ones who's dogs get loose and attack/injury people and other pets...the attacking dog owners denial of their responsibility in the attack is so typical of many dog owners.

Ok, now was both these dogs running loose, attacking people or pets? We don't know but strong chance that was the case.  Could be some people are tired of irresponsible owners who can't contain their dogs.

Pit bull legislation caged in rules committee

Personally, all dog owners need to be held responsible for the behavior of their dogs. If they want to change that it includes all dogs then fine. BUT there should be NO owner that gets away with their dog causing serious injury/death to a person or domesticated animal with out serious consequences.

“He just snapped.”
